Dr Augustine E. Okoruwa
Dr Okoruwa has over 25years experience in food processing, research and development, quality management, and regulatory affairs in both the private and public sector. His career has focused on value addition and postharvest loss reduction strategies through the development of crop processing and utilisation technologies as well as new food products development from idea to market (I2M) for commercialization and income generation.
He is currently the Project Manager, Agriculture and Nutrition (Postharvest Loss Alliance for Nutrition) at the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). Before this, he was an independent Principal Consultant/Director at Complete Foods Limited, where he developed and registered Davik Akara Chips, a novel local fried bean cake snack.
Dr Okoruwa worked for 13 years at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, where he established the Grain Quality and Utilization Laboratory; developed, demonstrated, and promoted several processing technologies for Maize, Cassava, Soybean, Cowpea and Yam in Nigeria and other African Countries. He also served as a Product Development Manager (Foods) at Evans Medical Plc.; Head of Technical, Research and Development at UAC Nigeria Plc.; Group Head, Research and Development at Flour Mills Nigeria Plc and R&D Technical Manager at the African Nutrition Ventures of GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria. Dr Okoruwa has consulted for both local and international organisations including AACE Foods and Distribution Limited, FAO, UNICEF, UNIDO, Suntory Beverage and Food Ltd Nigeria/Ireland (Lucozade and Ribena) and GIZ among others.
Dr Okoruwa obtained his BSc in Food Science and Technology from the University of Jos and his MSc and Doctorate degrees in Food Technology from the University of Ibadan. He is a globally Certified Food Scientist (CFS), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Administration (FCIA), a professional member of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (MNIFST), the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (MIPAN) and the Institute of Packaging Nigeria (MIOPN).
